[Hallicrafters] 5Y3GT Replacement

I'm working on an SX-100. The 5Y3GT has been replaced by a commercial made solid state replacement. It is a 1N1238. It is a direct replacement, 8-pin unit.

Does anyone know who makes these and if they are an appropriate replacement and how reliable they are?Last does it need a dropping resistor or is it built in, it is heavy.
