[Hallicrafters] 0A2 question

Not really. The series resistor should take care of
the voltage drop across the rectifier tube. However,
you have to remember that the filaments in the
rectifier have to come up to temperature and that
takes a finite amount of time. This, in turn, allows
the high voltage to come "on" in a relatively
"controlled" amount. Solid-state rectifiers, on the
other hand, are, for all practical purposes,
"instanteous" and thus the full high voltage "hits"
the various components (including the electrolytic
capacitors and other tubes) virtually immediately.

I agree, but that's what the series 200 ohm resistor
should limit.
