Good comments Greg.

Before I restore any radio I do the following:

1) Photograph the entire radio, especially the underside. .
2) Save all the old parts (ie, fried, melted, dirty wax paper caps).

I've not problems with replaceing the old wax caps with sprauge orange
drops, but you're correct in that an SX-25 with orange drops isn't very
pretty. But, since I'm planning on using the SX-25 on the air, I really
don't care for the original caps to go and perhaps take out the audio tranny
etc.

I've been use the "twiddle" method of late to replace parts; that means not
having to unsolder original wiring at the terminal strips (which save damage
also).

Cutting the old parts where the wires exit the body means you have
plenty of wire to connect the new parts, and new parts are typically
smaller.
Also, you can easily remove parts attached via "twiddle". And, when one
sees a part attached with "twiddles", they KNOW someone's been in there a
muckin' around !!

I thought there was someone going to offer black beauty cases for sale? One
could insert a new cap into the body then expoy it shut. I haven't heard
anything about that in a few years.

Both camps have their pros and cons.
