[Hallicrafters] Parted out Radios

Larry,

Agree/disagree.

If the radio is not practical to restore due to extensive damage or missing
parts, then it is fine to use it as a parts set to make a buck and help others.

However, if the set is restorable and you are just selling it for parts to make
money, then I have to disagree with that approach.

The final decision lies with the owner, of course, he/she can do what ever
he/she so desires, it really is none of our business. Even though we like to add
our two cents worth and get back some change! Now the guys that really concern
me are the ones who add their two cents worth, but want a nickel in change!

Havnt noticed a disturbing trend or a move to break up Hallicrafters for
enhanced profits. I have always noticed folks selling donor parts and want
to recoup something for their efforts though. Im glad those guys are around.
Thats how I found my Collins mechanical filters - and I didnt mind paying
for them. Donor sets are the only real source of parts for repair and
restoration.there is for 50 yr old plus radios. Your radio just went up in
value regardless of what you paid for the part since now it is working or
much closer to it. I dont expect anybody to sell me a replacement knob for a
vintage radio anymore for a buck or two. ----- Original Message -----

I wonder if anyone else has noticed a disturbing trend in the marketing
of vintage ham gear. Many old vintage radios, including Hallicrafters
are selling for unheard of prices lately, sellers are now breaking up
functional radios for their individual parts and selling them piece by
piece to enhance profits.

I guess this was inevitable due to demand but is sad these wonderful
radios are being stripped to enhance profits while the population of
working vintage radios declines.
