Hi again,

I want to thank the list for the many informed, varied and well-argued 
answers to my more or less unanswerable question. This was exactly what I 
had been hoping for, a liberal helping of the wide experience assembled in 
the list and its members. Tube radios have their personalities, some will 
winkle out that weak station, some sit on the frequency for days, some give 
great audio, some were affordable, some simply have charm and looks, not to 
mention the grimy set that you brought back from the brink of the 
junk-yard, replacing/reviving vital organs in the process.

So thanks to all contributors!  (including later comments, I don't want to 
stop the discussion)
