The DD-1 was the best receiver on the market prior to the heavily
government funded
units "post war "
A table top, not rack mount radio meant for diversity reception, capable
of wide band audio
or much narrower ifs, two simultaneously tuned rf sections and more--
The 1851 pentode in the front end was quiet an innovation for an all band
receiver.
Space diversity with separate antennas in the same receiver was very
novel, but one
paid for it,
The audio out put, PP2A3s at 15 watts [some said 25] of clean audio was
not an
innovation, but the overall design of the radio was.
Aluminum castings were used and a beautiful gear drive tuning system is
there also.
see Chuck Dachis book to view the pictures of the radio. Pages 33 and 34.
One has to spend some [lots] time restoring one of these monsters to
appreciate
the design.
Price was, in 1937, $550.00 [My Grandad bought a new '37 Ford with all
accessories for
                $610.00 that year!]
