Mine which is circa 1955, has an aluminum type finish with a slight wrinkle 
texture to it. It is a smooth finish, but has the appearance of metal. I'm sure 
someone can send you a picture.
PS:, Put in an isolation transformer immediately, let you become 'crispy 
critter' from comming into contact with direct ac voltage; especially if the 
insulation mounts are worn or missing!
