[Hallicrafters] S40 alignment help

I am trying to RF align my S40 and am having difficulties particularly at
the 14 - 7 mc points (band 3).  I have done an 455kc IF alignment (which
seemed OK) but...
when I put my SigGen at 14mc I get signals at 14mc and at about 14.5 both
about the same strength and the same at about 7 & 6.6mc (although the 7mc
one may be very slightly weaker but I can't pull the 6.6 one up to 7mc by
adjusting the cap.)  Adjusting the SigGen strength or moving the generator
lead farther away doesn't help, they both disappear together.

Given these are about 500kc apart do I have a 455kc IF issue and if so what
should I be looking for.

The other bands seem better, the second signal is not very noticeable if
present at all.
