[Hallicrafters] SX-16 Crystal Phasing

Tom,

The crystal frequency is (or should be, anyway) the same as the IF
frequency (465 Kc). The actual crystal frequency might have changed a
bit due to aging but if the crystal is still good it should be close,
in which case the IF can be adjusted as necessary to match the
frequency of the crystal.

Any crystal can stop working but before assuming that the crystal is
bad be sure that everything associated with it is still good. If the
crystal is bad then repair of the crystal is not likely unless it is
of the type that can be disassembled (I don't know about the one in
the SX-16) and even then the only thing you could do is clean up the
quartz slab. I wouldn't worry about the crystal until everything else
in the receiver is known to be good, aligned, etc. The crystal filter
is not going to work normally until all else is at or near normal.

Can anyone tell me what is the frequency of the crystal in the SX-16
is it the same as the IF . Is it possible for these crystals to stop
working and if so can they be repaired.

Thank You
