I did a "google" search and turned up a few SX-96 parts rigs so that might be
worth checking out. Your original dial glasses can probably be resilkscreened
by a local graphic arts and screenprinting shop. The yellow pages will
probably turn up many close to you. I had this done for a National NC-183D a while
back and the cost then was about $40 I think. They were in the shape you
describe yours and needed art work to fill in the missing detail. The result was
absolutely perfect. In addition to keep them from standing out like a sore thumb
you can ask them to "age" the white a little so they don't have that brand new
refrigerator white look while the rest of the receiver has patina. If you
decide to get new ones made a possible issue is the thickness of the glass. Your
glass is thin and for some reason the glass the repro guys often use is
thicker. This can be a problem in some receivers where there is limited clearance or
due to the style of the mounting hardware. The SX-88 is one such case being a
receiver that often needs dial glass work due to the black mask flaking off.
There is only about .020 clearance between the ends of the dial shafts and the
glass and trying to get thicker glass to fit can be a problem sometimes,
something the repro guys do not consider. There is excellent resources out there
if you need repro parts made and they can get the right glass if asked.
