The 1937 Hallicrafters SX-10....Reportedly less than 200 sold. Hallicrafters
FPM-200 Solid State transceiver...only a few released before the project was
canceled. I would also guess the SR-2000 rig (does anyone know production
figures on this one?). Price was around $1800 for all three units (SR-2000, P-2000
& HA-20) This was big $$$ for a Halli in 1965. Another was the RME-9...First
of the RME line and really the first modern complete communications receiver
(first to have all the best features everyone eventually settled on). Planned
production was for 100 units, built in the basement at W9CI; E. G. Shalkhouser.
Production changed to RME-9D (electrical BS- "dual" tuners) in the middle of
the run and moved to larger facilities at around this time. All were
essentially the same as RME-69 but with single airplane type dial and earlier 57-58 type
tubes. RME-9D production was certainly below 500 also but actual figures are
unknown. RME-69 quickly became very popular (new 6C6-6D6 tubes) and production
was about 6500. It is interesting to note that practically every
communications receiver made since the RME-9 (up to 1946) copied that basic design and was
essentially the same receiver packaged a little differently. The Collins 75A
of course changed everything.
