anyhow? <

Isn't market value determined by the marketplace; buying & selling? Such
supply & demand action is fundamental to capitalism. However, that means
there is no single value that applies everywhere for any length of time.
Market values can move *very strangely*, however, when the commodity and
the buyers are both in small quantities, as is almost always the case with
old radio & audio gear (well, any antiques, probably). Often, though,
'fair market value' becomes a catch-phrase used when one doesn't like the
price that the market set that day. Buyers use it to complain when prices
spike upwards, and sellers use it when they get caught in a price slump!

Duane understands how prices, that seem to him to be normal & reasonable
for high-end audio gear, will seem fantastical to others outside the same
circle of intense interest. Similarly, though, a high price deal for a
radio may only seem reasonable to the two who conclude the deal.
