Based on it's global reach, that "unmentionable place" is arguably the best
determinant of fair market value, so let's do a little research into SX-100
auction prices over the past 30 days.

There were five bidders willing to pay more than Ron's $650 asking price on
the recent auction where an SX-100 sold for $1800.00. Since then, two
others have sold for prices much closer to Duane's estimate bringing $306.09
and $259.09, and one went unsold with a starting bid of $340. A fifty radio
went to a sharp-eyed JA3-land buyer who spotted a bargain 23 minutes after
it was listed at $150 "buy-it-now" including an R46B speaker.

So what's the fair market price? Most likely somewhere in between the
extremes, but where exactly will depend upon condition, buyer movitation,
salesmanship, and many other factors (without a doubt the $1800 unit was a
very nice clean radio and was beautifully photographed). Civilizations
evolved around the marketplace where buyers and sellers could inspect goods
for sale and reach agreement on a price; the "unmentionable place" is just
the 21st century version of the same mechanism.

A smart guy named Adam Smith felt that competition - the "markets invisible
hand" - would lead to proper pricing, and based on recent sales of SX-100's
it seems to be working just fine. "Laissez Faire" is French for "leave
alone", which seems like good advice even now.

PS: Lots of folks like it when equipment is offered on these reflectors for
sale before going elsewhere, so I think K9KLT deserves an attaboy in that
regard.
