Morning Tom,
Sounds like you're working on an SB-6F or similar model.
Years back when MARS distributed surplus gear to their
members Alabama got a bunch of those donated from the Corp.
As a newbie I was not eligible to receive one but of the
guys that did apparently the final tube was a problem
in the rig. From what I remember there was a 7271 tube that
was the same tube but had a 13.5 volt filament instead of
the 6.3 volt filament of the 7270. In fact I believe there
were jumpers in the power supply that would allow either
tube to be used so that would be another option for you.
Apparently these tubes just didn't have much of a life or
at least that was the complaint I heard from the membership.
I would wager a bet that most of the units either were modified
or cannibalized for parts. I believe it had the "Now Famous"
7360 balance modulator along with Collins Mechanical Filters.
Anyway that's not much help to ya as far as getting a tube
but I would be curious to what direction you go on the project.
By the way is this the unit Bob AH7I had for sale a while back ?
Since it's been modified already it might be better to just
find another bottle for the final. Fact is I bet someone has
already been there before but I have no info at this time.
One final .... I haven't seen this tube in any other gear so
I'm not sure what that says. Maybe I'm just out of touch .... Hi.
The next generation of RF products I saw used 6146's so maybe
the 7270 was a one time thing and they corrected that problem.
Good luck and let us know how it comes out.
Take care

Subject: [Hallicrafters] 7270 tube needed
Hi group,
I'm looking for a 7270 power tube or a possible sub. I haven't been able to
get much information on what they were used in, but It is a power tetrode
with 80 watts of plate dissipation and about 135 watts out.
The project is a RF Engineering 6 channel hf rig that is a nice looking
piece of gear except for the frequency limitations. I'm using a T-195 PTO
versus crystals and the receiver works well on the frequencies I'm
interested in working but it would be nice to be able to transmit as well.
I'm not concerned about power output. Any help would be appreciated in
either a tube available for sale or a not overly painful sub.
Thanks,
Tom N5AMA
