[Hallicrafters] Switches and smells

I have been using an effective product for cleaning band switches. It is
a PHILMORE PREP PEN, stock number 12-437. It is a bundle of fiber glass
strands, about 3/16 in. diameter, arranged in a pen holder so that the
strand bundle can be extended or retracted. One rubs the tip of the
bundle (dry) perpendicularly onto the metal to be cleaned, and after a
couple of swipes, it is clean. I follow that with a touch of Caig
ProGold and one has new metal. I got my pen at Texas Electronic Supply
here in Lubbock. I haven’t checked to see if Philmore still makes them.

I came across a product that MIGHT be good for removing tobacco odor. I
haven’t tested it on a radio yet, so I am only mentioning it as a
possibility. It works well on my carpet. But, who knows, it might turn
radios purple. It is RESOLVE, which I bought in my supermarket cleaners
department.
