[Hallicrafters] cleaning SX-100 front panel

I've been restoring the cabinet on an SX-100 and was starting to clean up
the aluminum panel with the cross hatching design and am a bit confused as
to what cleaner to try and take off the yellowed remains of clear coat or
nicotine residue from cigarettes. Any one have a clue as to what this stuff
is? I first tried plain old dish washing soap and a small scrub brush and
some of it came off. But someof the darker residue remains and wasn't
phased by the dish washing soap. I've used Tuff Stuff in the past on
cabinets and had pretty good luck with that. But if this is clear coat
remains I doubt it will phase it either. Any help or suggestions greatly
appreciated.
Thanks..............................Bob Raley kg5r
