[Hallicrafters] R-12 rarity?

Gary,
The R-12 is quite rare. And for $50, it would be a real steal in today's crazy market, even figuring in your travel time and costs.
I've had one for several years. (I, too, paid $50, and the guy delivered it to my door -- but that was then, and this is now...) It's an impressive art deco piece, and it sounds good, too. I need to do some restoration on mine, as the veneer is peeling at the bottom. Time to learn furniture repair, I guess.
The only off-putting aspect of the R-12, in my opinion, is the choice of paint color. To my eye, it's an odd shade of gray. Truth to tell, I would've preferred stained natural wood.
Color aside, the R-12 is an impressive addition to your radio room, if you have the space to accommodate it. And an SX-28 looks great perched atop it. Stack an R-44 panadaptor on the SX-28, and you have quite the early-1940s high-tech receiving setup...
