Why not one more off-topic comment on GPR-90s, and I presume, the 92?

When I was a kid attending high school in Washington, DC in 1956, one of my classmates, a fellow aspiring ham op, was the son of the commandant of Cheltenham, MD Naval Receiving Station--the location of the famous "NSS" call sign many of us have worked on Armed Forces Day. Since Hank was the commandant's kid, we got to see a lot of the operation. During one visit, I remember being awestruck to see one of those gorgeous GPR-90s I had admired in TMC ads in QST. It was being evaluated for use at Cheltenham, said the electronics tech in charge of the section. I asked what he thought of it, expecting to hear high praise for it. What he said is unprintable. In his view it drifted too much to be of practical use for the Navy's needs.

I still thought (and think) they're beautiful receivers.
