[Hallicrafters] 3 IF stage Receivers

Some boatanchors with 2RF stages have one stage bypassed on BC - from memory
(risky) the SX-28 and SX-62 do this. Many solid-state radios also bypass the
RF amp below 2mHz. In addition, some (example, Icom R-71 and probably other
Icom radios of the same vintage) have an RC network to attenuate LW/MW
signals before they are passed on to the front end.

I'm not sure about whether having two or three IF stages makes much
difference in BC band performance but I do know most general coverage
communications
receivers have their sensitivity on the BC band lowered on purpose probably
to
limit interference. Perhaps someone who knows can share how this is
accomplished? Do they have a resistor across the BC band antenna coil to
numb the
sensitivity?
