Hi Dan,
    There's a varicap in the VFO that's varied by the calibrate pot & the
RIT pot.  The xmt relay is in the line, so if there's a poor contact in
the relay it can do that.  Clean the relay - pop the cover off, use a
narrow strip of plain paper with some DeOxit on it, move it between the
contacts while holding them with a hooked probe.  Also check that the
sub-plate that the VFO is mounted on is screwed down tight to the chassis,
the ground between the 2 must be very good.
    Does the receive audio sound gargley on strong signals?  Same problem,
it's FM-ing.

I'm having a problem with my newly acquired SR-160.  The receive is 10 kc
lower than transmit.  I looked the archives over and didn't see similar
problems.  Any ideas?   Thanks
