Hello list,
I found a burnt screen choke while troubleshooting a P-2000 supply.
Today I went poking around in the SR-2000 to see if I could find the cause.
I did.
The screen lead was pinched between the tube base compartment and the rear
panel shorting to ground.
It looks like the back was removed to replace the output relay. The relay
dont look original.
My question is Would all of the current that fried the screen choke have
been sunk at the shorted screen lead, or through the tubes and components?
The transmitter rf and audio gain controls were both all the way down. I
dont know who did what ahead of me. My only means of checking the tube
bypass caps is with a DMM. No shorts On the 20Meg ohm scale they all
incremented to infinity. The resistors seem fine in the tube base
compartment except for the two 2.7ohms they read 3.9 and 4 ohms. If I find a
choke do you think it will be safe to smoke test or should other components
be checked?
Does anybody on the list know what the resitance of the screen choke should
be?
Thanks for any suggestions or opinions, Critter
