It is important not to use any cleaning solution with a lubricant in it when
cleaning switches that have the wafers present. I am told they were made of
paper impregnated with plastic and the paper will absorb the lubricant. This
causes problems.

Many popular solutions do have a lubricant in them, although it may not be so
stated. You may have to read the contents and do some checking.

If you are cleaning contact points or relays and so forth, you do not want
anything that would coat them, obviously! There are many decent spray contact
cleaners out there. I have used isopropyl alcohol, AKA rubbing alcohol, to clean
tape heads and contact points for decades. However, it is not of much benefit if
the contacts have corrosion present. Some super fine grit sand paper will help,
as will the trusty old dollar bill!
