Tony,

As I am sure those wiser than I on these matters will advise you, this is an
area of great opinion and personal choice. However, some manufacturers are more
quality minded than others.

There is no one brand that fits all, several will fill the bill.

Various suppliers from Mouser to Antique Electronic Supply to a new one getting
good comments, not sure of the name - but will check. KW4HF just got a Sam's and
capacitors through them, good prices, good quality.

All,
I've found the thread concerning capacitor replacements, etc. to be very
interesting and informative. To be honest, the wealth of knowledge on this
reflector is a bit overwhelming.

Since I am slowly accumulating a few boatanchors, it is apparent I will also
be running into problems with component breakdown.

If this is a stupid question, please forgive me for my ignorance, but I
wonder if somewhere on the web, or would one of you gents who have such a
wealth of knowledge be able to summarize a simple (easy to printout and use)
recommendation for capacitor replacements? What I'm trying to say is this:
Is there a type (name/color/brand) of capacitor made that you would
recommend, over all others, as a standard replacement for the older
components? For example Sprague (such and such) or whatever brand. I noted
one of the messages described a capacitor with yellow printing (bad choice)
while the cap with red printing was OK. And while I am at it, have you
found one source to be more likely to have most of the common values one
would need if completely "re-capping" say an older Halli, Heath or Drake
receiver.

Again, if this question tends to over simplify a more complex subject, my
sincere apologies.

Thanks for any suggestions and/or recommendations.

Regards to all
Tony, W4FOA
