Duane - That's a really great question. It will be interesting to hear from
others.

I have not ever mass replaced every possible back beauty or other type caps
wholesale in any radio. Probably should in some of my radios. However, it has
been my experience on only a few items that capacitors are the ones most
generally bad that I replace, of any component. Only a few resistors; mostly
on the older monitor scopes (Heathkit HO-10, SB-610). On these scopes I did
replace the power supply caps as well as some of the "cooked" resistors around
the CRT. I would tend to agree with your source about resistors. I do though
find some instances of resistors going bad after some time passes because they
are underrated in some circuits. That is, they really needed to be 1 or 2 watt
rather than the 1/2 watt. That kind of thing.

Very interesting topic. BTW, just recently I had to replace two audio output
transformers in a National NC-303 and a Hallicrafters TO Keyer. Not bad for
over 40+ years of age.
