On the subject of recapping...
a few years back (on this list IIRC) i saw mention of small tubular links
made of tinned copper wire, which enabled the replacement of components such
as resistors and caps without completely removing the original pigtails. You
clipped off the original pigtails with say 1/4 inch remaining, slipped one
of these links over each of the remaining pigtails, then slipped the new
resistor/cap into the links, then applied solder.
Not as pretty as complete removal, but it had the advantage of greatly
reducing the application of prolonged heat to old tube sockets, IF coils
etc, while trying to undo the original pigtails.
Anyone know what i'm talking about? Any idea where one can obtain these? (i
can make my own but they're kind of ugly :(
