[Hallicrafters] capacitors - recapping

Bob...
I believe I know what you are talking about and I have done essentially the
same thing in the past by taking the lead on the replacement cap or resistor
and winding it around a pin with a very slightly larger diameter than the
clipped (removed)component lead, and bending it in such a way as it slides
over the clipped lead. It needs little space and done carefully, it doesn't
look bad at all!
	I hope this helps.....

On the subject of recapping...

a few years back (on this list IIRC) i saw mention of small tubular links
made of tinned copper wire, which enabled the replacement of components such
as resistors and caps without completely removing the original pigtails. You
clipped off the original pigtails with say 1/4 inch remaining, slipped one
of these links over each of the remaining pigtails, then slipped the new
resistor/cap into the links, then applied solder.

Not as pretty as complete removal, but it had the advantage of greatly
reducing the application of prolonged heat to old tube sockets, IF coils
etc, while trying to undo the original pigtails.

Anyone know what i'm talking about? Any idea where one can obtain these? (i
can make my own but they're kind of ugly :(

thanks
