Please join us on Saturday January 17th for the Hallicrafters Collectors
International 40 meter Net. The pre-Net will commence at 12:30 PM EST, (1730
UTC). Because of the SSB contest, it would probably be wise if one of you joined
me about noon so we can hold the frequency!

The frequency will be 7.280 Mhz lsb +/- for key clicks, mike splatter and the
ear piercing whail of "CQ Contest. CQ Contest. CQ! This is W0LAW. Loud and Wide!
If I splatter, you all can't chatter! CQ." Living proof that a license really
does come in a box of breakfast cereal, I think the brand name is Fruit Lips! Or
was it Shredded Witts?

I hope to hear some intelligent life tomorrow over the turbo prop powered fans
cooling the HF amplifiers used by operators who think that 1500 watts is the
minimum legal limit power! Modulation? Yes it must be at least 100% with some
fake reverb thrown in to mimic long path propagation! PEP? That means ya gotta
PEP up that puny transmitter so it splatters at least 8 Khz either side of the
operating frequency, or any contact made must be considered as QRP!

I have nothing against those who contest, I just wish they had their own
frequency allocation for it. Didn't we used to call that Citizens Band?
(chuckle) I paid twenty dollars for KCS7650 and once got a citation addressed to
"occupant"! Truth! I really do not mind contestors, the majority behave
themselves, but those that do not sure raise a lot of heck on the bands and give
Ham radio a bad smell. We can all co-exist if we ALL respect each other and try
a little harder.

Hear ya tomorrow!
