Glen:
Along the same line of inquiry, I've seen KWM2 units with the various 6146 varieties. Which variety did Collins specify for the M2?

Thanks,
Bob

The 6146B is NOT the same tube as the 6146/6146A/8298.
In many cases substituting the 6146B for the earlier
series tubes causes all sorts of problems.

For the article on the 6146 family of tubes that
appeared in Electric Radio a couple of years ago and
was printed in the Collins Collectors' Association
newsletter since then go to either of the websites
that are listed at the end of this message.

Also, any 6146W produced after 1964 (and some in 1964)
are the equivalent of the 6146B even though there was
nothing in the nomenclature to indicate this. Those
produced before 1964 are either 6146 or 6146A
equivalents. The 6146 and 6146A can be mixed in the
same unit. But, DO NOT mix a 6146B with the earlier
versions! That is really asking for trouble!

My question is: Are there any opinions (base on
experience) on the 6146 vs. 6146A vs. 6146B and on
the manufacturer (GE, RCA , CBS, Amperex, Sylvania).
