I bet everyone has a good story about finding that elusive hallicrafters.
Just a couple of my stories.
#1- Bought a SX-28 at a local Kiwanis auction for $20.00. All original with
manual. No extra holes or rust. It now sets in the middle of my shack.
#2- Set back and grab the arms of your chair. This really happened. A few
years back XYL wanted to go yard saleing. As she was poking thru some
glassware, I struck up a conversation with the woman that was having the
yard sale. Seems that her husband had passed away and had retired from the
military. She took me to the garage and there sat two hallicrafters
receivers. Both were the same model number. We had an ice storm two years
previous to my showing up at the yard sale and the receivers had been
setting on cardboard boxes. Having a dirt floor and the melting ice, the
receivers ended up face down in the dirt and water. She said that they were
to heavy for her to lift and let them stay were they were for several years.
I asked how much for them and was told that they were free for the taking.
"If I didn't take them, they were going to the dump". I loaded them into my
XYL's SUV. Now your all wondering what the were.
SX-88's, yep, that's rite, two of them. All rusted and broken knobs, frozen
shafts, etc. But still SX-88's.
What was your best find?
