I have been having trouble with my SX-111 - couldn't align the IF, low
volume, no S-meter action, etc. The problem seemed to be little signal
getting through the 2nd mixer in the converter sub-chassis. I removed
the 2nd Converter sub-chassis and found that R202 had gone from 120K
ohms to greater than 40M ohms although it looked good. I also found a
broken wire (solid wires are used in much of the point-to-point wiring)
which had been flexed one too many times. Replacing these two restored
proper bias and the IF aligns as does the 1600 KC 2nd converter.
Alignment of the 1700 KC converter requires a hex wrench which I don't
have but have ordered. Getting inside of the sub-chassis was a pain
but is doable (with lots of sketches).
The receiver, although it worked before, has new life - lots of volume,
S-meter now works, and good sensitivity. The crystal calibrator still
doesn't work but I have a crystal coming.
