[Hallicrafters] color of sx-25

I have been told that with the US entry into WWII hams were required to
not only shut down operations but to render their equipment inoperable.
I have also been told that the Army invited hams to loan their gear to
them to assist with the necessary rapid expansion. There were a number
of stories of hams doing this and then enlisting in the Signal Corps,
only to find themselves sitting in front of their own loaned equipment.

This would account for a wide variety of equipment being in use by the
Signal Corps early in the war. I have also heard that the Army did
order some SX-25's early in the war and this might account for the paint
job on yours.

All this info is second-hand for me; does anyone in the group have
personal experience with any of this?
