[Hallicrafters] SX122 S meter Problem

Hi All,

I have a very nice SX 122 receiver, works real well, BUT...get this ..the S 
meter works backwards !!...the stronger the signal, the lower the reading on 
the meter...tune through an AM carrier, it dips , not peaks !!

Anyone got any idea why this could be, and what might be the problem ??
