[Hallicrafters] Overly Sensitive S-38C?

Greetings All, 	
	
I have a S-38c that seems to me is too sensitive on MW. I have listenable audio
with the volume control at full off on local stations. I do have a long wire
antenna connected, but no ground. Too much antenna? Perhaps. 	
	
it is not as sensitive on the SW bands, but still adequate. 	
	
Question: 	
	
What would cause this apparent over sensitivity on MW other than too much
antenna?		
	
FYI: The RX has been recapped, tubes checked, aligned and the usual.
