Here's my 2 cents, so now we'll have four.

First -- Radio Shack is in a very big, and weird way, very much a radio
place.  Ironically, the new age term is wireless.  (So the Brit's win,
after all.)  Wireless phones, handy dandy family radios, satellite
receivers and dishes, radio controlled cars, 100 in 1 project kits, and
something I just acquired some experience with, wireless LANS -- routers,
access points, adapters and so on.  Don't forget the most ubiquitous
two-way radio -- cell phones -- up the wazoo.  Oh, yeah, I think they
still sell some CB's, and scanners and and and ...  Just not our favorite
flavors, maybe.  Oooops -- forgot they carry some Grundigs, including the
$40 crank-job.

Yup, parts selection has shrunk.  Just a handful that can go in your
boatanchor.

Brings back memories.  Lafayette HQ used to be in Queens about 15 miles
east of Manhattan, then moved to Syosset, a couple of miles from me. 
They also had an outlet store in Carle Place, near Roosevelt Field to
sell off discontinued and returned stuff.  (Roosevelt Field was where
Lucky Lindy took off, later commemorated with one of the first and
largest shopping malls.).

Harrison and Arrow were both on Route 110 in Farmindale - -about 10 miles
East of me.  There were a lot of places around here on Long Island for
parts and gear.  Nowadays, if Radio Shack doesn't have it (which they
mostly don't), it's mail order or Internet, or even that e-place.

Oh well.
