the S-120 doesn't have AVC or an rf gain control.

I've tried tuning via the tuning control, the bandspread, and the bfo,
with similar results.  I thought maybe something was off with the bfo
(or just the operator).  Is it common to only have it affect the signal
for 50% of the pot's travel?
