[Hallicrafters] Coil winder

Hi all,

As you can tell from the following observation/questions this is an area 
new to me...

I was perusing my 1957 Allied catalog and wishing I had purchased some of 
those nice boatancors back then (drool). I sure would have a nice 
collection today. Of course I couldn't afford those prices back then, 
although they sure seem pretty low by today's standards.
Anyway, I have some interest in acquiring a coil winder and noted that my 
Allied catalog had a Morris coil winder for $4.95 (!). It went up to $8.50 
in the 1968 Allied catalog. I see them going for well over $100. on the Bay.
Are they that much in demand or are the Bay prices not representative of 
the real world?
Are there other sources for these things?
Are other brands available/in use?

Wow, talk about sticker-shock.
