[Hallicrafters] R-46 speaker wire question

Looking for information in regard to a Hallicrafters S-118 value.
I have one that was used for only six months and has been in dry, clean
storage ever since. It works fine.

The problem with the original wire on mine was that it was VIR (vulcanised
india rubber).
The rubber goes hard and brittle with age.
It looks like figure 8 power cord stuff, but I replaced it with a brown
coloured figure 8 speaker wire from Radio Shack (Tandy's).
