Steve,
You should put equalizing resistors on capacitors in series. The ESR is
seldom the same or stays the same with time. The voltage drop will be
greater across one capacitor and can exceed the voltage rating.

Since we are on the subject of capacitors, I recently used two electrolytic
caps in series to create the correct capacitance while doubling the voltage.
Now I learn about equalizing resistors. I didn't use any, is this a big
problem? Everything works fine but maybe trouble down the line?
