Good story. I actually saw images in my mind of this place. I know exactly
how it looks. Weird.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] TRUE STORY

My son called me yesterday morning and asked if I want to take a ride with
him. Seams he is interested in older cars and wanted me to take a look with
him. Sure, why not, I said. We drove for about an hour or so and stopped for
directions to the house that "should" have the old car. A small town with
about a dozen houses and a country store at the intersection of two roads.
Finally, we found the place and knocked on the door. An elderly woman
answered the door and asked us in. My son started to question her about an
old car she mite have. "YES", its out back near the John Deere tractor. She
pointed us in the rite direction and we walked out back. Sure enough there
it was 1956 Chevy 210 sedan. Your all wondering what this has to do with
Hallicrafters. Well, read on. While out back, I noticed what was left of a
Rohn 25, laying on the ground. Didn't pay to much attention at first until I
see some elements sticking out of the snow. This caught my attention more
than the 56 chevy. My son looked the car over and decided it was just to far
gone to try and repair. So, we went back to the house to tell the lady my
sons decision. While inside, I asked her about the tower and part of a beam
that was out back. Yes, she said, that belonged to my late husband. Are you
a ham? Yes mam, I am. Well this started a conversation about the good ole
days. After about a half hour of chit chat and my son getting very
impatient, the lady asked if I am interested in any old ham radio stuff,
SURE AM, I stated, follow me. She opened the door that went to the cellar
and flicked on a lite. I reached the bottom of the stairs and turned left.
Thru the dim lite, I couldn't believe my eyes. There set a SX-28 and a
SX-115. As I approached them, I see a tall cabinet covered with a dirty
blanket. I peeked under the cover and my bottom lip hit the floor. "OH MY
GOD" I thought to myself, A Collins KW-1. I turned and told the lady that
she had some nice radios. There were also piles of other stuff, tubes, caps,
resistors and other chassis laying around. She then asked my name. I told
her and then she stated that she needed the room in the basement for more
firewood and would I like to have the radio stuff. "GASP", sure, how much, I
asked. Nothing she said, just take it away. I couldn't do that so I struck a
deal with her. I bought her 4 chords of seasoned/split firewood for ALL the
radios and stuff. Needless to say, my son wasn't impressed at all,
hehehehehehe.

.I turned over, opened my eyes, was in a cold sweat, wow, what a dream.
