Hey, don't laugh. I remember a signal generator that had a device in it
they
called a "Wobulator" for Frequency Modulation. Basically it was a voice
coil and magnet that drove an aluminum plate which was part of the L-C
circuit for the RF oscillator. An audio output stage drove it and you
simply turned up the "volume" to get more deviation!
