[Hallicrafters] SX-100 Lower SideBand Problem

I have heard of people rapping the crystal to get it started. In other
words, flicking a finger at it (I don't mean vertically), and hitting it
while in circuit. Sometimes this gets them working. Unless this is an old
wives tale.
