Both the R-46 and R-46B had flocking on the screen wire covering the speaker 
The R-46 was light gray flocking and the B model was very dark gray, almost 
black. If you have just plain screen wire, the flocking has worn off or the 
screening has been replaced.

Flocking kits may be had in better craft stores and is reasonably easy to 
apply. We used to do it to turntable platters years ago. General Cement sild the 
flocking kits which consisted of a paint brush, can of varnish and a round can 
of brown flock what resembled a bread crumb can.  Ah, the good olde days!!!
