Hi,
Slightly OT here, but while chasing beacons last night I heard the
following two Russian LONGWAVE broadcasters. Both heard on the
Hallicrafters SX-71 (circa 1955) and a homebrewed Longwave Up-converter.
C'mon folks, jump on the LF bandwagon (Though LF is primarily a
wintertime sport). Yep, with a little home brewing (or purchase of a
commercial LF up-converter) you CAN listen to LF on that old Boatanchor!
LF was GREAT last night from 0200-0600 LOCAL California time with good
openings into Russia, Alaska (including a NEW first time heard Alaskan
beacon, ALJ-233 at 1982 Miles. POA and LLD Hawaii were POUNDING in here.
1200 UTC, 234 KC, Magadan, Angarsk, or Arman. There are 3 Russian's
listed for this frequency though I suspect it's Magadan. Russian music,
OM announcer. Weaker than 279KC.
1129 UTC, 279 KC, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Music with OM singer in Russian,
Surprisingly nice and clear.
73 from the "Beaconeers Lair".
