Lots of interesting conversation regarding digital readouts and the like.
While the AADE unit looks like a nice piece, I'd have to question why one
would want to tear into vintage gear and paste a digital dial in there?

I guess it would be useful to watch how much drift occurs, but there's
easier and less invasive ways of accomplishing that.

Why would anyone particularly care whether you're listening on 7040, 7040.8
7041.2 or 7045, if operating vintage BA gear? If you start on 7040 with
much Halli gear, you're likely to end on 7042 or 7038 before too long
anyway! Why rush the process?

I guess you could replace the warm, golden dial with some LEDs, replace the
tubes with FETs, the hollow state rectifiers with 1N4007s and you'd
have.... well.... the very radio we're trying to get away from by using
Boatanchor gear.

Pondering this further, picture ambling down the local hamfest
aisles...ahah! What's that box under the table...on its side toward the
back. Gotta be Halli! Cool! It's a SX-40 and that would be just the ticket
to use w/the Ranger... Let's see...don't act too excited.. don't want to
tip our hat to the nice man selling this piece. Let me scoot it around and
take a look if it's got all the knobs....... oh.......... someone's
pasted a digital dial in there.

Darn.... maybe the next row....

Digital ovens, digital dashes, digital clocks, digital washers and dryers,
digital world....

Give me that SX-101 with it's football field wide dial. Lets see...who
might be
on 7040 qrping it tonight... hmmm should be right about here on the dial,
plus or minus a bit. There we go...looks to be two or three qso's , and
bingo! There's a CQ... Hmmm ... somewhere about 7045...let me spot the
Ranger....there we go! Ready to rock! Nice fist, nice Ranger, nice analog
station, nice time to sit back and relax, and enjoy my analog escape.

Respectfully,
John K5MO
