This weekend, courtesy of Neil at AADE i tested a version of his DFD with
provision for the SX-71. Verdict? It works great, and unlike earlier DFD's
which i have had from a few years back, this unit did not require a
preamplifier and did not require me to calibrate the clock crystal.

For my money, this converts a very hot little radio from being a quaint
curiousity in the corner of the shack to being a credible DX machine in the
center of the desk. I also have DFD's (Hammarlund versions) in my SP-600 and
HQ-180 - they are dead accurate, and i can read down to tens of hertz if i
choose. These things are an absolute must for high-end boatanchors.

PS - this unit also works for various National receivers. I tested it on my
NC-183D with similar excellent results to the SX-17.

Thanks Neil, this is cool!
