[Hallicrafters] 8T speaker

I have no definitive data, but my impression always has been that the R-8T speaker is more rare than the R-12T.

I know that back in the mid-1980s, long before Chuck Dachis put together his informative book, he was self-publishing a simple photocopied listing of all Hallicrafters products known to him. He listed the R-12T, but no R-8T. I wrote Chuck and told him about the "smaller R-12T" that I had acquired. I included photos as proof. He responded with thanks and an offer to purchase my 8-inch version. I declined his offer, preferring to think that (for a while, at least) I had something Hallicrafters that Chuck didn't. The next version of his photocopied listing included the R-8T. I never was sure if that was the official Hallicrafters designation, or if Chuck employed logic and simply hung that model name on it.

At any rate, I've seen (and owned) several R-12T's. But I've only seen one R-8T other than the one in my modest collection. Therefore, although my observations certainly aren't scientific, my vote is that the R-8T is more rare than the R-12T.

But they're both pretty dang neat...

Mike, KØMYW
