Pique (or PeeKay) was the manufacturer's name for a type of truss head
sheet metal screw that was very popular for fastening earlier aircraft
sheet metal panels such as wing root fairings to airframes as well as a
substitute for rib stitching for attaching fabric to wing ribs (ala the
1946 Aeronca 7AC "Champ"). The screw was known as a "PK" screw, and
this became a popular descriptor for that type of screw, regardless of
who actually manufactured it. These screws look like wood screws in that
they have a sharp pointed thread of now particular pitch, and a truss
head (a low profile oval with a Phillips head), but are used for thin
sheet metal fastening without the use of washers or nuts.
