Depends on the market, I suppose.... if there's a demand...
I (and others here) am into guitars. The guitar market took off like
mad in the 70's and has gone completely through the roof. `Vintage'
guitars are commanding ridiculous prices, regardless of the fact that
there's no real definition for vintage. You have to watch out for repro
or fake guitars.
Then there's the Dead Rock Star Effect<tm>. A certain 60's guitar is
worth a LOT more if it is white because Jimi Hendrix played one. You
can pay over $300 for a tiny handful of parts that comprise a box that
intentionally distorts your signal - because Stevie Ray Vaughan used
one.
Buying a vintage amp? I hope it comes with the original filter caps (at
least in a baggie). These are the equivalent of boatanchors (damn that
hernia!). Discerning guitar players still use tubes.
The new thing is reissues, like Duane's much-touted Halli :)
The SRV box has been reissued. They had to track down a supplier for a
no-longer-made (horrid little) op-amp because people won't buy them if
they don't have the JR4558 in them.
Fender has a Relic series. You'll love this - they produce new guitars,
then scratch them and age them to look like they're actually that old.
And you pay EXTRA for a pre-dinged guitar. How many of you would buy a
new SX-100 from the factory that looked like it had been in use since
the 50's on purpose?
Odd folks, these collectors.
P.S. That having been said, please send me all of your left-handed 50's
and 60's Fender guitars and basses for safe-keeping. Thank you.
