[Hallicrafters] SX-101 Series

I suppose it depends.  I have a 101 and a 101A..  Many feel the 101A is
more desirable as it was the last in the series, with various
enhancements for SSB use over the older versions.  I like the "plain"
101 as I have a weekend 160 meter AM net and use the 101 at times for
that.  The A version substituted the more or less useless VHF converter
band for 160.

I find both versions do fine on SSB or CW, even though the non-A 101
lacks a product detector.  Plenty of BFO injection so there is minimal
riding of the RF gain control required.

Any 101 is nice to have.  I love the front panel layout, it's one of the
most recognized ham band receivers of all time.  I recall a two page
Halli ad in QST that was just a front panel shot of the 101A with a note
about "character"...
