I was not disagreeing with your conclusion! Far from it, I totally agree.
I was simply pointing out something that many younger people don't seem to
understand . . . that folks in the past may have bought things for what
seems today to be a paltry sum, but the paycheck then was paltry, as well.
All too well I remember working after school at the grocery store in the
late '40s and early '50s, for .50 an hour, to buy the S20R!
Well, I didn't really mind, 'cause I was real happy with the radio.
